8 Mile- Film Trailer Analysis
trailer formalistic convention in 8 Mile:
- production company and studio
- intertitle
- introduces main characters
- dialogue
- music
- names of the characters
- key scene
- film title
- narrator
The opening of the trailer, it starts of by the main character singing and also showing him going home. The area where he lives shows that it is a deprived area as it doesn't look safe. It then goes to a jump cut with him still singing the song, but shows that he already reached home and was singing to a little girl. Before the music starts you get a dialogue of the main character speaking about how he lost his job and the other guy is making a fun out of him, he replies "at least i got a job". This conforms to an Urban Drama as it shows how the characters are dressed, and how they can not keep a job because of material deprivation. He manages to find another job but it is in the factory, his boss says, "late again and your fired." This shows that people who come from a low economic background don't take things seriously and nothing would last for them, the only jobs they could get are those in the factories because you don't need qualifications. The music used is by Eminem who is the main character. During the scenes whilst their is background music you get a quick shots of different scenes in the film. You see the main character having an argument with his mom, see him get into trouble with a gang and they beat him up in front of his house whilst the little girl sees this and cries for help and he express his feelings through music.
